Winter

Winter equals snow, of course. Certainly in the ski resorts around us. It snows in our hamlet as well, lots of times. Around the house the snow usually quickly melts away. Our hamlet remains easily accessible, because the roads are cleared from snow twice a day.

Anyhow, the sun will almost certainly be present, our region is effectively blessed with 300 days of sun each year. La Font d’Eygliers, nicknamed “le Petit Nice” (small Nice), has a wonderful microclimate due to its exposition (south facing) and sheltered from the wind.

Winter offers you a multitude of activities as well.

In the snow

Time to step away from skiing limited to one ski resort, time for “discovery ski”…

In the heart of “le Pays Guillestrois”, la Maison du Guil offers you an easy acces to a wide range of ski resorts and other wintersport activities.

The ski resort of la Forêt Blanche in  Vars –  Risoul will be your starting point (at 20 minutes by car or via free shuttle busses), offering you 180 km of slopes, snow guaranteed and plenty of sunshine on top.

Then, as you wish, depart each day to discover a different ski resort like Puy Saint Vincent in the valley of Vallouise, Crévoux or Les Orres.

Enjoy skiing in nature’s splendour of the Parc Régional du Queyras, in Saint-Véran, Ceillac or Arvieux.

You need more slopes? You’ll find plenty in  Serre-Chevalier: 250 km of freshly groomed slopes wait for you at only 30 minutes by car.

You would be tempted by a ski experience in different countries? How about skiing on the border between France and Italy? You’ll find it all in Montgenèvre at only 45 minutes.

So free yourself from the urge of skiing in only one resort, and head off to discover several ski resorts.

But winter has so much more on offer than just skiing …

A winter holiday should not be limited to only skiing, this region has so much to offer.

You feel like trying some other sports?

The Parc Régional du Queyras has a broad range of cross country ski slopes as well as snow shoe hiking paths.

For cross country skiing or ice climbing, you can contact the mountain guide Jean-Philippe Cherbonnier.

ride on a dog sled in the heart of the park will surely provide an unforgettable experience.

Head off cross country skiing with an experienced guide, and discover picturesque corners of the regional park. An exhausting climb to the summits, followed by a unique descent in untouched snow, through breathtaking landscapes and with gorgeous views.

Are you more tempted by a day of “farniente”? Our garden facing south with deckchairs invites you to read, relax and just submerge in the silence of our valley. A valley in a region that is proud to offer 300 days of sunshine a year. And why not just enjoy a hot sauna, followed by a relaxing massage in your room.

For your mind

The fortified village of Mont Dauphin, a Unesco World Heritage Site is just a short walk away. The town’s architecture – designed by Vauban in the late 17th century and executed in local rose colored stone – is particularly harmonious. The site offers guided tours, horse shows in summer and a variety of exhibits.

The old town of Embrun, a 20 minutes drive away, has a fine architectural heritage. Don’t miss Notre Dame du Real, a cathedral built in the 12th and 13th centuries, the Archbishop’s Palace with its Tour Brune, as well as the historical centre’s houses, sundials and fountains.

If you go just a bit further, overlooking lake Serre-Ponçon you’ll discover the wonderful Abbaye de Boscodon, a 12th century structure of which the architecture is reminiscent of primitive Cistercian art. It’s privileged location above the lake of Serre-Ponçon is truly unique.
